Classic Climbs of the French Alps Bike Tour
After a hardy mountain breakfast overlooking the alpine peaks from the windows of our cozy French chalet, head to your bike, turn on your GPS unit and flip to today’s bike ride: the infamous Alpe d’Huez. With it’s 21 switchbacks, 13.5 km ascent and average gradient of about 8%, it’s surely to be revered. But you may be surprised: now that you’re several days into the trip, you’re feeling strong after already tackling multiple categorized climbs in the previous days. Just how difficult will Alpe d’Huez seem?
As you round the final bend, you and your fellow riders are greeted with enthusiasm by your In Situ leaders and locals alike for a celebratory picture and snack break before continuing the day’s ride. Back at the chalet by mid-afternoon, you have time to clean up, relax, soak in the hotel’s hot tub or hang out with your leaders in town mingling with the locals over a drink and compare times up the famous climb. Finish the day in style with a multi-course meal of regional specialties and wines that can only be superseded by your amazing accomplishments today in the saddle.
